“We, at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Hartford, Connecticut, strive to be faithful to the Lord’s teachings and to the Catholic tradition through liturgy, education and service.”

Our Founding

Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Parish was established in Hartford in 1958 to serve the local community of immigrants from Portugal and the Azores. Founded by Father José Dias Martins da Silva, the parish purchased a vacant Danish Lutheran Church on Russ Street, where the community worshiped together in faith and fellowship.

From its very beginning, Our Lady of Fatima was more than a place of worship — it was a home for a people far from their homeland, united by their Catholic faith and their love of Portuguese heritage and culture.

A New Church

As the parish grew, so did the need for a permanent home. The basement chapel of a new church was completed in 1986, and on April 30, 1988, Our Lady of Fatima Church at 50 Kane Street —
Fatima Square — was formally dedicated. It was a moment of great joy and pride for the entire parish community.

The Community Center

The growth of our parish family did not stop there. On January 21, 2006, Our Lady of Fatima inaugurated a 13,000 square foot Community Center — a landmark achievement for the parish. The center houses our Religious Education (CCD) program, Day Care, a Portuguese Language School, and programs for retired and senior parishioners including our beloved Cantinho da Saudade fellowship group.

The Community Center stands as a testament to the dedication and generosity of our parishioners, who have always believed in investing in the future of their parish family.

Our Mission

We, at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Hartford, Connecticut, strive to be faithful to the Lord’s teachings and to the Catholic tradition through liturgy, education and service. We treasure our roots and are committed to fostering our Portuguese language and culture translated into a special expression of faith.

We want to share our uniqueness with our brothers and sisters around us and at the same time we will be enriched by the reciprocity of experiences. We invite you to join in fulfilling the recommendations of the Virgin Mary, when she appeared in Fatima, by praying the Rosary every day for peace in the world.
