Planning Your Wedding at Our Lady of Fatima

We are honored to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage with you. Please read the following information carefully as you begin planning your wedding. Wedding arrangements must be made at
least six months before the wedding date.

⚠️ Do not finalize any wedding plans until the parish office confirms the date and time of your wedding.

Requirements & Documentation

Parish Membership

Persons seeking to be married at Our Lady of Fatima Church are expected to be regular, active members of the Parish.

Documentation Requirements

The following documents are required to begin the marriage preparation process:

  • Completed Pre-Marriage Information Form
  • Baptism Certificate (Bride and Groom) — if sacraments were completed outside of OLF
  • First Communion Certificate (Bride and Groom) — if completed outside of OLF
  • Confirmation Certificate (Bride and Groom) — if completed outside of OLF

All certificates must be issued within the last six months.

Marriage License

A civil marriage license is required before any wedding can be performed. Please keep the following in mind:

  • The license must be dated within 60 days of the wedding date
  • It may be obtained from the City of Hartford or the town where you reside
  • The license is signed by the officiating priest and returned to the City of Hartford, where it is registered by the church
  • An Official Certificate of Marriage may be obtained through the City of Hartford
  • It is unlawful for any minister to officiate at a wedding without a license — no wedding may be performed until the priest has received the license

Meetings & Marriage Preparation

A Conference for Engaged Couples must be attended prior to the wedding. Four meetings with a Priest or Parish Professional are also required and will be scheduled through the parish office.

Engaged Couple Conferences are available online through the Archdiocese of Hartford. Registration must be completed online:

Wedding Day Details

Punctuality

It is extremely important that all participants arrive promptly for both the rehearsal and the wedding itself. There is frequently more than one function at the church on the same day.

Flowers

The choice of florist is left to the bride and groom. Wedding altar flowers are to be left at the church as a donation, with the exception of the season of Lent. There are 15 pews on each side of the aisle.

Please note: It is the responsibility of the bride and groom to notify guests that flowers, rice, confetti, and similar items are NOT permitted to be thrown inside or outside of the church.

Wedding Aisle Runner

An aisle runner may be used if desired and can be obtained from your florist. Please note that the length of the church aisle is 57 feet.

Rehearsal

The rehearsal usually takes place the evening before the wedding. Rehearsals can be scheduled for Thursday or Friday before the wedding at either 5:30 PM or 7:30 PM and must be arranged with the officiating priest. Please allow approximately one hour for the rehearsal.
